Why Do Drug Lords Have Nice Cars?

iu-2

“Good behaviour attracts blessing”  is a phrase that someone used in Google that led him or her to this site. But that being the case, why do drug lords have nice cars?

I understand where they are coming from, after all everyone wants to enjoy blessings, and if there is a key to receiving them then lets go for it. But is it that straightforward, if I do good, good comes; but if I do bad bad things happen? Read more

The Fuel of Terrorism

coffins-or-murdered-Coptic-Christians

After a week on the amazing continent of Africa I have seen extremes in several directions – from people kissing the shoes of their favorite ‘man of God’ to God supernaturally mending broken hearts, the appalling murders of Christians to the joyous celebration of a newly wed couple. I have witnessed heart rending poverty and then opulence that makes even a Westerner like me gag; I have delighted in seeing the tears of joy as people come to realise how much they are loved but then have seen others refusing to relent in their religiosity and ministry of condemnation. Should we take the Bible literally?

bible-Sunlight

This is a question that is often asked, and if we give the wrong answer we can end up being treated as a half crazed religious zealot; to answer this properly we have to decide what we mean by ‘literally’.

Our brains work really well when it comes to metaphors, we can subconsciously pull meaning from stories, examples and phrases with no effort; in fact when people struggle with metaphors we have to make special allowances. I remember a student in one of the schools Sandra and I oversee asking for help with his work, I answered, “I won’t be a minute”. When I got to his desk he informed me that I had been one minute and forty three seconds; because he was autistic he took what was said at it’s literal face value, whilst everyone else knew I would be with him in a short period of time. What we learn from this is much of what we say isn’t meant to be taken literally, and the same is true for the Bible. Read more

We Are Free From The Law

Hi All,ten commandments

There is seems to be much confusion as to where the law of Moses fits in the life of the believer – to cut a long story short, it doesn’t. But to help bring understanding I thought it would be good to let the Bible speak for itself, here are a list of Scriptures that explain what the law is about; I will be doing some videos on a number of these. I have to say thanks to Phil Drysdale for the inspiration behind these, his site is definitely worth checking out.

All the Scriptures are from the NAS, but you can have fun looking at different translations. Read more

The Same Sex Marriage Debate

There has been a lot of emotions running very high over this debate. In this post I want to put forward the arguments from both sides in as clear a way as I possibly can, hopefully allowing people to see what is what. Because my job is to write in an uncomplicated and as brief a way as possible  (though that has proven difficult in this case)I haven’t included Scripture references or a list of resources; these can be easily found for both sides of the argument if needed.

A word here to the wise; if you want to comment on this post please be civil and offer well thought out arguments or agreements. Overly emotional, hateful or ignorant comments from either side will be deleted both on my blog and Face Book page. Read more

Grace – The Purity of The Gospel

The purity of the Gospel is not found in our efforts to live right, but the refusal to add anything to the good news. When the message of Jesus is contaminated with religion and self effort we end in fear and spiritual paralysis. Don’t be intimidated, rather stand unashamed of the truth that what Jesus did was enough to make you right with God.

Apologies for the inferior recording quality.

Go well my friends 🙂

God Says “I Will” – Radical Grace 5 Podcast

HandsReachDownUp-283x300

Under the Old Covenant the pressure was on for us to fulfil its terms and conditions;  failure to do so could bring dire consequences. Under the New Covenant the story changes from God saying “thou shalt” to “I will”. The pressure of the New Covenant is born by God Himself. It is God that saves us, God that keeps us and God who will raise us.

What Must I Do To Get God To Bless Me?

What makes God bless us?

If the world quit sinning what would happen? If mankind stopped stealing, murdering and lying, if the gay community went straight and religious zealots stopped blowing people up, surely then God would bless the nations and we could all enjoy a better life, wouldn’t we? The short answer – No!

What we are

A common misunderstanding about sin is that people believe it is exclusively what they do – not so. Sin is just as much about what we are! Sinning doesn’t make us sinners, being a sinner makes us sin. Sin is as much about our actions as it is about our nature. Read more
